Documentation and what to expect of DNA or Fingerprint Evidence Value

Placement of a colored “PostIt” on top of the number stands “peak” while taking the overall and intermediate photographic perspectives can be helpful to demonstrate the distribution of various calibers at scene (or other forms of evidence eg. blood or impressions).  During “close up” photos, include in at least one photo the color assigned. This documentation may prove very helpful later to associate the color to the class of evidence.

NOTE: Spent cases rarely provide usable fingerprint or (trace) DNA evidence. If either DNA or fingerprints on spent cases are deemed essential to the investigation, always collect  with fresh (fresh!) gloves. . They may be packaged in small envelopes or rigid containers.
